13 a lucky number for Britain in Bloom success

In 2017, Oswestry in Bloom made history by becoming the only town to win a Gold award at the Heart of England in Bloom for the 13th year running, when the town was named as the large town category winner.

From Heart of England in Bloom to the nationals

Thanks to this regional success, Oswestry has made the national finals of Britain in Bloom competition for 2018 - one of 76 towns across the country vying for one of 12 titles at the annual awards.

As you’d expect, there is much excitement around the town and preparations are already being put in place for when the national judges come to inspect over a two-week period in August.

For the national competition, the bar is set that bit higher than for the regional. As such, the group is looking for new ways to impress the judges, including a proposed scheme to improve one of the gateways to the town.

How self-watering planters helped Oswestry win Gold

Oswestry in Bloom has a team of individuals who work tirelessly to improve the visual appearance and quality of life in Oswestry. They also work with a range of Amberol products such as 40 up the pole baskets and two floral fountains.

Aside from the help that the Amberol planters and baskets bring, Oswestry in Bloom has devised a strategy that encourages local businesses to take part in their work. The hanging basket scheme means that businesses can sign up to have floral decorations on their building and watered.

As part of their 2017 regional win, the judges cited the excellent hanging baskets throughout the tour, the spectacular bedding displays in a local leisure park and a well-maintained cemetery that all gave a colourful lift to the town. Also mentioned was the civic pride that shines throughout the town.

We hope that Oswestry in Bloom has as much success on the national scale as they did on the regional one. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on the results.
