National Garden Scheme Grants open on 29 September 2026
As summer gives way to autumn, many community groups are already looking ahead to next year's gardening projects.
The National Garden Scheme Community Garden Grants open on 29 September 2026, offering funding to help bring new community planting and improvement projects to life.
Grants of between £1,500 and £5,000 are available to support community gardening projects across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. Successful applicants will be notified in April 2027.
Only the first 300 eligible applications will be considered, making early preparation essential.
Supporting greener, healthier communities
Community gardens play an important role in bringing people together, improving local environments and creating welcoming outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy. To support these projects, the National Garden Scheme is once again offering Community Garden Grants to eligible community groups, charities and Community Interest Companies (CICs).
Projects are assessed on their horticultural merit, sustainability and long-term community benefits. Applications that demonstrate environmentally responsible gardening practices and support biodiversity are particularly encouraged.
What can the funding be used for?
The grants can help cover the cost of a wide range of garden improvements, including:
- Plants and containers
- Materials for flower and vegetable beds
- Greenhouses, polytunnels and sheds
- Seating
- Hand tools and selected garden power tools
- Materials to support community refreshment areas (excluding consumables)
For many projects, this funding could provide the opportunity to create more attractive, accessible and sustainable outdoor spaces that benefit local residents for years to come.
