At Amberol we are fortunate to work with customers who are largely driven by making their environment better in some way; maybe by making it tidier or prettier - or just a nicer place to be. As so many of our customers are non-profit making and community minded, we like to do our bit to support some of these organisations who go above and beyond to improve our world.

That’s one of the reasons why we have offered our support to regional Britain in Bloom organisations via sponsorship for over 25 years. Like many of our customers, it’s not just about balancing the books, but also about ‘Making a visible difference’ – which is both our strapline, and the sentiment that underpins much of the work that we do.

Sponsorship in action

One of the key ways that we support In Bloom is by offering sponsorship to the regional organisations which they then use to help fund initiatives such as local competitions and awards. We also attend regional events where possible and have always enjoyed the opportunity this affords us to talk directly to the end users of our products, whether they be litter bins or self-watering planters. Of course, this has been more difficult over the last 12 months, but we have done our very best to maintain contact with customers remotely and via newsletters, social media and continued sponsorship.

This ‘on the ground’ contact helps us to ensure that we understand what our customers like and need, as well as their problems and little niggles. It’s something that the sales team in particular have missed in recent months. As MD Patience Atkinson-Gregory comments: “The best bit of what we do is meeting the In Bloomers in their communities and at regional events. They never cease to amaze us with their dedication to their communities and the amount of time they dedicate to making their towns, villages and neighbourhoods look bright, colourful and welcoming each year.”

Saying thank you through challenges and competitions

Although we are unable to sponsor individual In Bloom groups due to the sheer number of organisations, we are always looking for ways to offer support. One way that we try to thank our customers is by running regular competitions such as our ongoing photo competition or last year’s ‘Name the birdie’ challenge, offering prizes of Amberol vouchers which customers can use to reduce the costs of buying the planters, litter bins, benches or planterware that they need.

“We have been working with many of our customers for two or three decades now, and so we count many of them as friends,“ adds Patience. “We believe to be very fortunate to work in an area that enables us to work with such lovely people. We learn so much from them too as many of our customers are happy to share the secrets of their success with others, which can only be good for our wider communities as a whole.”

Staying true to our core values in adversity

Like many businesses, local authorities and community organisations, 2020 was a difficult year, but Amberol has emerged by being flexible and transparent with customers, as well as staying true to their core values of offering quality, value for money and going above and beyond for customers when required.

Patience concludes: “We will of course, continue to support customers in a range of ways throughout 2021, including through sponsorship of the In Bloom regions – it’s really a part of our DNA now.”
