Tim’s Travel Blog… spotlight on Amberol’s long-lasting products

This is an extra special blog, as Amberol’s Business Development Manager Tim Troman reminisces on when he joined Amberol and how a self-watering basket he made in 1985 is still going strong at 38 years old!

In 1969 Amberol was born and set-up in the Railway Wharf building in Belper by Phil Atkinson and Jack Williamson. They had a vision which was way before their time, to manufacture products that saved precious resources and local councils money.

Tim joined the business in 1984, as Amberol’s first employee at 19 years old. Phil and Jack developed him and taught him the ropes. A self-watering basket that Tim manufactured in 1985 is still providing beautiful floral displays for the Belper community 38 years on. He is pretty sure it will be going strong in another 10 years!

Sustainable vision continues…

Their vision is still embedded in Amberol today, providing In Bloom groups and local councils self-watering planters for long-lasting displays that are low maintenance, saves water, time and money. All Amberol products are made from long-lasting material that is 100% recyclable at the end of its use. The black planters are even manufactured using recycled plastics.

Examples of long-lasting products

  • Better Balmedie, a community gardening group in Balmedie, north of Aberdeen has shared an image of their Amberol Beehive Tiered Planter purchased many years ago, laden with flowers and spreads joy all year-round, even during the pandemic!
