Photos showcase spring and summer 2022 as competition winner announced

Many people have enjoyed the long hot summer of 2022, but it has thrown up some challenges for gardeners, horticulturalists and Britain in Bloom groups in terms of keeping plants healthy and well-watered.

However, for Amberol customers using self-watering planters, the challenge has been a little easier to manage. And once again, we see the visual proof of how self-watering planters can help ensure the creation and maintenance of stunning floral displays in our quarterly photo competition.

Demonstrating versatility and variety

With competition entries including images from various Jubilee displays as well as scenes from high streets, railway stations and riversides, both the range and quality of entries was impressive. The versatility of Amberol’s self-watering planters was also demonstrated with entries showcasing beehive planters, tiered planters, stone effect troughs and window boxes amongst others.

Congratulations to Wickford in Bloom

This quarter’s winning entry was submitted by Graham Bradley and came from Wickford in Bloom in Essex. The photo shows a beautiful Amberol barrier basket planted up in Jubilee colours brightening up railings on the town’s railway bridge. As usual, the winning entry was chosen by the public via Twitter and Facebook, with Wickford’s photo attracting 549 likes. Wickford also submitted another entry which took second place with 476 votes.

Comments on Amberol’s social media page highlighted how much residents value the work that In Bloom groups do to improve their environment. Comments on Wickford’s photos include: “All flower planters in Wickford are beautiful. Thanks you for your hard work” and “Proud to be living in Wickford”.

The fourth placed photo from Brandon on Bloom also celebrated the role of volunteers, showing two happy group members tending to an Amberol planter. A Facebook user commented: “These people and planters have totally transformed this town.” Other photos also featured In Bloomers going about their work and we are delighted to be able to offer a forum where these dedicated people can be acknowledged and thanked.

Before and after

The third most popular photo came from Brookfield Nurseries and showed many, many Amberol hanging baskets planted up ready for installation around the region. We very much hope that Brookfield will submit their ‘after’ photos in the next competition so we can see the beautiful results.
