Amberol planters play an important part in Market Rasen enhancement project

Amberol planters play an important part in Market Rasen enhancement project

We are firm believers at Amberol that trees, plants and flowers can transform even the greyest urban environment, so we are always delighted to hear of improvement projects within the community – especially when they involve Amberol planters.

Although Market Rasen in Lincolnshire couldn’t be considered an urban environment, like many town centres, the local council are keen to improve the area as part of a plan to bounce back from the negative impact that lockdowns and Covid have had on town centres.

Post-pandemic support for the community

The council has received funding from West Lindsey District Council through the Welcome Back Fund, which has helped finance exciting plans to enhance the town’s market place, one of the focal points of the community.

Amberol self-watering planters are being used to create a seating area with a total of 23 new containers currently planted up with spring bulbs and placed around the town and market place courtesy of Market Rasen Rotary Club.

“This is the first stage in the market place project, which will be a main focus for the town council this year,” explained town mayor Stephen Bunney. “We are grateful to everyone who took part in the consultation process – change is now coming.”

Transforming the market place

The aim of the project is to create a multi-functional piazza-style square with space for a café society as well as for community events, plus an area for parking. Amberol’s planters and hanging baskets are a fantastic addition, creating a more attractive backdrop - and of course, they help conserve water and reduce maintenance at the same time. Project organisers are hoping that the enhancements will encourage visitors and shoppers to stay longer in the area, and a digital screen will also keep people up to date with events and activities taking place in the town.

In addition to enhancing the market place where a weekly market is still held, Amberol planters will be used alongside bollards, barriers and gates to mark traffic free zones and car routes. The self-watering planters around the market place include Amberol’s popular metre squared planters and tiered planters.

Although considered a small market town with a population of around 4,000 people, Market Rasen is also the home of Lincolnshire’s only racecourse. The area is also popular with walkers.

The Welcome Back Fund has been set up to help encourage people back safely to high streets across cities, towns and villages. The £56 million fund comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)and is being shared amongst councils across England.

Can we help with your improvement project?

Amberol’s self-watering planters can help transform a space, bringing colour and cheer to the environment. Tiered planters help create the wow factor while Up the Pole baskets and hanging baskets can add visual interest above eye level.
