We are always happy to hear our customers’ success stories and so we were delighted to learn that Townhill in Fife has been awarded Gold in Beautiful Fife 2016. As Fife is such a beautiful part of the world, the competition must have been pretty stiff!
Townhill is a great example of how a small community can work together and make a difference to where they live. The local community council takes great pride in maintaining the village’s public areas and carries out many improvement initiatives over the year including an edible nature trail, litter picks and displays in support of Breast Cancer Care.
The council has used Amberol’s self-watering planters for several years, using square planters, hanging baskets, railing baskets and octagonal planters to help create some beautiful floral displays around the village. They have also invested in two of Amberol’s popular talking bins for the children’s play area in the local park as part of a drive to keep public areas clean and tidy.
Townhill received the award at the Beautiful Fife presentation evening on Thursday 8th September. To achieve Gold, the judging criteria required ‘An exceptionally high standard demonstrated throughout. A consistent approach that demonstrates both best practice and sustainable effort’.
Ronnie Cowan, Chairman of Townhill Community Council was delighted with the award saying “Thanks to everyone who has made this possible including our elected councillors and Fife Council staff whose continued support has helped make this possible. We hope that this award will encourage more volunteers and generate more ideas to the benefit of Townhill, and to improve on the high standard now officially acknowledged!”
Ronnie also believes that using Amberol’s self-watering containers has helped the village succeed in these local and national competitions. “Our achievements in both the Beautiful Fife and Beautiful Scotland campaigns can be attributed in part to having floral displays in self-watering containers as well as to the hard work and imagination of our Community Council and volunteers if course," he comments.
