Leeds looking lovely with Amberol’s self-watering planters

A recent story in the regional press has highlighted how self-watering planters are able to create stunning floral displays even in the very hottest of weather.

The article contrasted the glorious appearance of Amberol’s self-watering planters in Leeds city centre with the traditional containers in a neighbouring town.

According to the article, the displays in the market town were unfortunate casualties of the recent heatwave with some of the flowers looking limp due to the unusually hot conditions. In contrast, the displays in nearby Leeds remained fresh and colourful throughout the dry spell.

A retired gardener criticised the local council for letting flowers die in the heat, claiming that they hadn’t been watered for weeks. The council responded by saying that all their containers were watered weekly – and sometimes more frequently in hot weather, but said that they would investigate the issue.

Patience Atkinson- Gregory of Amberol is sympathetic to this problem saying: “It is very difficult for ground staff to keep displays in traditional containers looking fresh when the weather is very dry, which is why self-watering planters are such a great investment. Many councils are committed to making their town centre and public spaces look good by investing in plants, but it’s important to have a clear maintenance plan that works throughout all the different seasons.”

Leeds city centre has a wide range of Amberol self-watering planters, including some stunning tiered planters. “The displays in Leeds are looking really lovely, and we are delighted to have played a part in that at Amberol,” Patience adds.
