Saturday 21st March is the first day of spring, and also marks a national Government backed initiative - Community Clear up Day. This is a chance to get communities involved in a nationwide spring clean designed to spruce up high streets, parks, communal areas and schools, as well as residential and business areas.
Unfortunately, litter can be a real problem for many councils who spend thousands of pounds keeping the streets of Britain clean and tidy. However, it’s not just a case of cleaning up after people, it’s also important to educate people to dispose of their rubbish more responsibly.
Clear up Day is a great awareness raising initiative for communities across the UK. The team behind it has also developed a range of resources to help promote the event in individual communities. The free toolkit includes tips for organising the event as well as editable posters to publicise any activity. Click here to download a toolkit or for more information.
“Our public places are very important and there are few sights more disheartening than a high street or village square strewn with rubbish. Initiatives such as Community Clear up Day are a great way of bringing people together to enhance the area where they live,” comments Amberol’s MD, Patience Atkinson-Gregory. “It’s also important to position litter bins in places where they are likely to be well used. We often advise our clients to identify litter hotspots as a starting point when buying new bins to ensure that they are tackling areas where there is the most need.”
