Amberol and Drayton Manor celebrate ‘a long and happy history’

Drayton Manor Theme Park in Staffordshire is one of the UK’s most popular family attractions, welcoming over one million visitors a year. Home to Thomas LandTM and over 100 different rides and attractions, the park was first opened to the public in 1950 by the current owners, the Bryan family. Set in approximately 280 acres of countryside, the park also has a well established zoo in addition to a range of shops, restaurants and the recently opened Drayton Manor Hotel.

Keeping areas clear and litter free is always an issue at any outdoor venue. With thousands of visitors every year, the estates team at Drayton Manor makes it a priority to keep the grounds clean and tidy. The team also has a firm commitment to fulfilling environmental responsibilities and uses recycling bins extensively throughout the grounds.

“We use Amberol bins and benches to enhance the entrance and general appearance of the park”

The park is open for approximately ten months of the year and its refuse needs vary throughout the seasons. It is a popular venue with schools and other organisations for group visits and is always particularly busy during the school holidays and summer months. In addition to using the takeaway food outlets and restaurants on site, visitors often bring picnics and require outdoor seating during the fine weather. All these factors mean that Drayton Manor staff have to keep on top of waste collection to keep the park in a pleasant and presentable condition.

Drayton Manor has been using Amberol products for many years, with Estates Co-ordinator Gaynor Pope personally working with the company since 2002. Amberol supplies a range of products, such as the traditional and sturdy Square Deal bins which have a 130 litre capacity. The park has also introduced sets of Eco Bins to reduce the organisation’s landfill. Amberol’s novelty bins, which take the form of different animals, can be found in schools and playgrounds across the UK and prove popular with children (and adults). Drayton Manor has sets of penguin bins around the site and to complement the zoo area, encouraging younger visitors to deposit their rubbish. In addition, the company supply the park with two different kinds of benches, one of which is specific to Drayton Manor with extra legs and individual memorials attached.

“In the ten years that I have worked with the company, they have never let us down”

The fact that Drayton Manor and Amberol have such a long history of working together is evidence of the range and high quality of the company’s products. “We use Amberol bins and benches to enhance the entrance and general appearance of the park,” comments Gaynor Pope. “Their products are always well made and sturdy, whilst the novelty Percy Penguin bins look great and are very popular with our younger guests. Using the recycling bins has also helped us to significantly reduce the amount of waste food, paper, card and plastic that we have to send for landfill.”

The bins and benches are carefully chosen to complement the landscape, which includes picnic fields and woodland as well as the zoo. “We take conservation seriously at Drayton Manor – it’s not just about rides and rollercoasters,” adds Gaynor. “Our aim is to keep the site litter free and as welcoming as possible. The outdoor seating needs to be sturdy and weather proof as well as looking attractive. The Amberol benches really fit the bill and give our guests a chance to sit back and appreciate their surroundings.”

Three words that Drayton Manor use to describe Amberol: Deliver on promises!

“Drayton Manor Park has a long and happy history of working with Amberol,” adds Gaynor. “In the ten years that I have worked with the company, they have never let us down. Their products look good, and are long lasting. Over the years we have also developed a great relationship with the company’s sales representative who supplies our needs without being pushy or selling us items that we don’t need. I am more than happy to recommend Amberol and their products to others.”
