Winners of our 2017 photo competition announced
The results for the annual Amberol photo competition showing our self-watering planters in situ are in!
We were overwhelmed by the number of high-quality entries we received this year from councils, Britain in Bloom groups and keen gardeners. They came from locations across the UK and beyond, so thank you all for sharing your colourful displays in full bloom. It’s always rewarding to see how our products, alongside all your hard work, help to make our villages, towns and cities look more beautiful.
The task of choosing a winner is never easy for us to do and this year was no different. After some deliberation, our panel of judges unanimously decided on a picture that perfectly captures how a great floral display can transform and enhance our public spaces.
Taken by Andrew Carpenter, this year’s winning photograph came from Market Harborough in Bloom and shows the Leicestershire town’s iconic Old Grammar School with an Amberol self-watering tiered planter in the foreground. The group have won goods worth £1000 for their efforts.
Second prize went to Moira Gregg of Aberdeenshire for her photo of a beehive planter in full flower, with third prize going to Josephine Sweetman of Bury St Edmunds for her photo of barrier baskets outside St Mary’s Church.
There were also five highly commended photos from Belper town council and MacDuff in Bloom, as well as images from Belgium and individual gardens.
Thank you all once again for entering. And remember, it’s never too early to start planning where you are going to take your 2018 photograph entry. Take inspiration from this year’s and past years’ winners and it could be you or your group walking away with the £1000 worth of prizes next year.
We are always delighted to see Amberol products in action, so please do email any photos that you would like to share to email@example.com. Even if you weren’t a winner, keep your eyes peeled and you may see your photos on some of our literature, on our Facebook page or on our website.

As summer approaches and the weather gets warmer (hopefully), the facility of Amberol’s self-watering planters to help conserve water really comes into its own. This is particularly true in the current crisis when people are required to minimise any form of activity outside the home.
We love to hear about the way that people use our products. Whether you are a school, leisure centre or council using litter bins from our range of indoor and outdoor litter bins to keep your environment clean and tidy, or a Britain In Bloom group creating wonderful displays using Amberol’s self-watering planters, it’s always good to see and hear our products in action.
The Great British Spring Clean, originally scheduled to run from 21st March to mid-April, has been postponed due to the situation around Covid-19. The national campaign will now run for a shorter period from 11th to 27th September.
