Congratulations to the Britain in Bloom 2023 Finalists

Here at Amberol, we know only too well the enormous effort that goes into the Britain in Bloom competition and would like to congratulate the 44 community gardening groups that have secured their place in the 2023 Britain in Bloom UK Finals this summer.

The Britain in Bloom is the UK’s largest community gardening competition, where each of the 17 Bloom Regions and Nations, who run individual Bloom competitions, nominate the highest-performing entries to compete in the UK Finals.

The finalists will be looking to impress the Britain in Bloom judges this summer, by improving their local area against the competition criteria that puts environment, community engagement and horticultural at its core. The winners of each category will be announced at an awards ceremony in the autumn.

Stand out finalists…

In the ‘Large Town’ category, first-time UK finalists Bonnie Blantyre in South Lanarkshire has demonstrated their community engagement by having network of groups of all ages leading on projects such as wildflower meadows, a community orchard and community gardens growing edibles for those in need.

Whereas Thornton in Bloom in Yorkshire who are one of the finalists in the ‘Urban’ category have created a sense of place, identity and civic pride by running a competition to encourage businesses, community spaces and individuals to work together to make the village centre welcoming to all.

Addressing environmental issues and implementing plant-friending gardening practices has been a must for all of the community projects. Exmouth in Bloom, who are finalists in the ‘Coastal’ category have been embracing the challenges faced on the seafront by trialling sustainable salt and drought-tolerant planting and introducing palms and subtropical species. Meanwhile, Brandon in Bloom have been replanting perennials that absorb traffic pollution.

Good luck to all the finalists!
